Shirley Young was awarded - 2013, Light of China: Persons of the Year in Spreading Chinese Culture
On the ceremony of 2013 Light of China held in Beijing on Dec. 20th, Shirley Young, the chairman of US-China Culture Institute, was awarded Figures Spreading Chinese Culture of the Year together with other 10 awardees.
Here is the award term for Shirley Young: When we have known about the world but the world hasn't understand us, she already had a dream to be a diplomat, which was unconsciously influenced by her family. She is a successful business leader; she is also a leading overseas Chinese elite; she is a folk ambassador connecting two nations as well.
Lisa K. Heller, the Senior Cultural Affairs Officer of US Embassy in China, gave a strong recommendation of Ms. Young. She said, “At the U.S. Embassy, we have known Shirley Young as a leader in US-China cultural relations for decades for her work as Chairman of the US-China Cultural Institute and as a leader of the Chinese-American community.
