Women's Leadership, Peking University & Wellesley College
On June 15, 2013, the conference of “Women’s Leadership: Making a Difference in the World” co-presented by Peking University and Wellesley College was held in Peking University. More than 300 high-profile women leaders in government, business, media and academic institutions from China and US attended this conference and made discussion around how to improve the development of global women leaders and cultivate women leaders under the global economy.
To inaugurate the partnership, 40 students from Peking University & Wellesley College participated in an intensive 10-day academic program in June. Supported by faculty from both institutions, outstanding practitioners from the field, and thought leaders from around the world, these 40 young women worked together to examine some world’s most pressing global problems and joined perspectives from their various disciplines and respective cultures, using the highly successful pedagogic model established by Wellesley’s Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs. On June 8, former U.S. Secretary of State under the Clinton administration and Wellesley alumna Madeleine Albright herself officially launched participated in the academic program, taught a master class for the 40 students and co-presented a dialogue on women leadership with Ming Yuan, director of the Institute of International Relations at Peking University.
Besides, on June 14, Peking University President Wang Enge and Wellesley President H. Kim Bottomly signed a Memorandum of Understanding and commit to working in partnership to educate the next generation of women leaders. After the academic program, the Wellesley College/Peking University Partnership will continue to grow with faculty and student exchanges, joint research ventures, virtual collaborations, and more.
