“HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR: FANTASTIC ART CHINA” RETURNS TO NEW YORK CITY IN 2017
“Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China,” organized by the Ministry of Culture and undertaken by China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in partnership with US-China Cultural Institute was a nine-day festival celebrating “Year of The Rooster.” The event uses visual and performing arts and arts education as a medium to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year and to help share Chinese culture with people all over New Year City.
Events were held across New York City from January 23rd-31st at iconic cultural venues and landmarks and include the Empire State Building lighting, Fireworks over the Hudson River, community events such as Children’s Day, where many children from all over New York City participated in free visual arts education programs as well as live performance and dance classes led by children and teachers from the National Dance Institute, a Contemporary Art Show was also held at Metropolitan Pavilion; giant Roosters balloons, an art banner and traditional Chinese lanterns helped to decorate David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center for the New York Philharmonic’s 6th Annual Chinese New Year Concert and Gala conducted by Maestro Yu Long.

Happy Chinese New Year, Fantastic Art China New York Event Series, 2016
The New York City Lunar New Year annual event series is dedicated to the themes of art, education, and nature, through partnerships with leading New York institutions as it brings the celebration to iconic New York City locations. Partners include National Dance Institute, The Nature Conservancy, New York Philharmonic, Committee of 100, Columbia Teachers College, New York School of Interior Design, China Institute, Museum of Chinese in America, New York Foundation for the Arts, and New Gallery of Art. The 2016 Year of the Monkey celebration events included a five-day art exhibition at Javits Center, fireworks over the Hudson, Empire State Building lighting, and the New York Philharmonic 5th Annual Chinese New Year Concert and Gala.
